[CANCELLED] Visions 2020
|March 24, 2020|
When the Belgian Adolphe Sax premiered his new invention, the Saxophone, to the Parisian scene in the 1840s, it was immediately met with extraordinary resistance and opposition from both composers and his colleagues.
It wasn’t until 1857, under the patronage of Napoleon III, that Sax established a saxophone class at Paris Conservatoire – which eventually encouraged classical musicians to take this instrument seriously.
From the beginning, Collide has been about shattering imaginations on what was traditionally thought possible. Arranging well-loved works for other instruments, showcasing the distance classical saxophone has come since the 1800s, encouraging living composers to write for ensembles outside of the norm – Collide is three award-winning artists, who are also close friends, who want to share the colour and beauty of sound with people everywhere.
